Are You More or Less Likely to Retweet Someone’s Tweet if They Ask for a Retweet?

April 19, 2009 | Comments

05In one of my previous posts (How to get more people to retweet you on Twitter), I mentioned that asking for a retweet usually increases chances of being retweeted. I guess it all depends on the content of a tweet, but in my experience at least, asking for a retweet got me more retweets.

I talked to a few people about that as well and received different feedback. So, I decided to run a poll to see whether you are more or less likely to retweet, if someone asks for it in his/her tweet.

Are you more or less likely to retweet someone's tweet if they ask for a retweet?

I will RT when someone requests it if I think it's RT-worthy, and if that person doesn't make a habit of asking for a RT. It happens so rarely among my followers that when it does, it's usually for a good reason, so I pay attention.
  • For tweets amongst my friends, I retweet often. Others, I would check out the contents first before retweeting.
  • When someone follows or Tweets to me I visit their page and look for the best Tweet they've recently shared worth retweeting. I will often favor the one they specifically asked for a RT on provided it is as good or better than their others.

I RT a lot because the Tweeple I visit regularly both write and find / share awesome content.
  • I still only RT if the content is interesting to me, and feel it might be interesting to others... after all, it's my reputation at stake if the info is harmful.
